Northglass

The weather lives on your desktop, not in another browser tab. Northglass turns your Windows wallpaper (and optionally your lock screen) into a live NOAA satellite image, puts the current temperature in your system tray, and keeps live NWS radar and alerts one click away.

No ads. No account. No tracking. Northglass only talks to public US government servers: the National Weather Service, NOAA and USGS.

What you get

• Live weather wallpaper: a GOES satellite image with a small caption (place, temperature, conditions) that updates every time the weather refreshes. Optional lock screen too.
• Temperature in the tray: big, readable digits, so you can check outside at a glance.
• Current conditions, forecast and NWS alerts for any US town or ZIP code, with an optional alert sound.
• Animated radar loops from 16 radar sites over a USGS topo map with roads and towns, plus a pop-out radar window you can park on a second monitor.
• Weather Maps tab with 35 live NOAA images: WPC forecast maps, the national radar mosaic, and GOES satellite views (geocolor, infrared, water vapor, visible).
• A small, quiet window: dark mode, a see-through window with an opacity slider, and a compact minimalist layout.
• Settings that stay simple: units, refresh interval, alert sound, show place and time.

Details

• Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. Small installer (about 12 MB). Installs per-user with no admin password.
• US locations only (it uses National Weather Service data).
• Your location is stored only on your PC.
• Heads-up: Northglass isn't code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may say "Windows protected your PC." Click More info → Run anyway.
• Not an official National Weather Service or NOAA product.
